Dios, Patria, Rey: un trilema que condensaba un mundo. Bajo esta bandera combatió, en la España del siglo xix, uno de los bandos enfrentados en la Primera guerra carlista (1833-1840) y en la Segunda guerra carlista (1872-1876), además de protagonista de numerosas insurrecciones, algaradas, pronunciamientos y conflictos bélicos menores. Se consiguió movilizar entonces a millares de personas. El carlismo constituye un movimiento de notabilísima importancia en la historia contemporánea de España, que no terminó con el final de las carlistadas en 1876, sino que siguió actuando durante muchas décadas más. Jordi Canal estudia en esta obra la relación entre el carlismo y las guerras civiles en España, así como distintos aspectos del ideario y de la cultura política carlistas. La cruda realidad se mezcla, en todo momento, con los sueños por la causa, en unas historias apasionantes que el autor reconstruye con maestría.
